This is not a Budget Blog: Choose Cheese, Christmas, and a Cuppa
It’s Friday again already, which means blog time—and, believe me, it sneaks up faster than a bill from the taxman. Now, I could ramble on about the budget and its impending doom for small businesses like mine, but let’s be honest: everyone else is already out there, hammering away at the topic. So, I’ll just sit back, make myself a cuppa, and let the experts bicker away while I quietly pretend none of it exists.
Last week, I gave you six top-notch reasons to shop local, and lo and behold, Wokingham actually looks busier! Now, I’d love to think it’s all because of my blog—but considering my audience is roughly me, a handful of loyal customers, my wife (at least she tells me she reads it) and a loyal spam bot, I’m not convinced. Still, it’s nice to see people milling about, looking for the first Christmas gifts for people they may or may not actually like.
And yes, our Christmas stock has officially begun to invade. It’s not quite Santa’s Grotto here yet, but I’m planning to make it look like a sleigh crash landed. I’ll have the festive stock ready for next week so you can wander in, have a browse, and feel that seasonal guilt that somehow ends with you buying something (hopefully).
For those of you who want to build a hamper (what a great choice), we’ve got that sorted. Just pop in, pick a few things, and we’ll do the rest; we’ll even post if required. Or, if you’d rather stay at home in your pyjamas (working from home I think they call it…), you can hop onto www.philsgoodfood.co.uk and we’ll ship your hamper out. Nationwide delivery, people! And sometimes even abroad. Earlier this year, some Australians went mad for our Paddington cookie lunchboxes, which means my little shop in Wokingham is marginally famous Down Under.
Now, for all you cheese lovers, we are already taking Christmas pre-orders. Yes, you can fill out a proper order form in-store or, if you’re desperate, just download one here. We’re all about options here. Cheese is a commitment, after all; it deserves paperwork.
Oh, and a public service announcement: It’s Wokingham Fireworks tomorrow night! So, make sure you’ve got your tickets, dig out the wellies, wrap up, and bring a torch. Don’t set anything on fire unless it’s a sausage. It’s so much better than fireworks at home; I’m not saying home fireworks are a waste of money, but last time out, my wallet screamed louder than the rocket!
So, come for the cheese, the Christmas goodies, the wine, the gin, the indie beer, and maybe even a bit of a chinwag. And if you don’t laugh at one of my jokes, just remember what Spike Milligan said: “All I ask is a chance to prove that money can’t make me happy.”
Have a great week!
Cheers!
