This Week I Have Been Mostly.....
So, we all missed the Winter Carnival this year, and who do we have to thank for that? Big Bad Bert, the wettest storm of the year. Honestly, if storms had personalities, Bert would be that guy at the pub who spills his pint all over your shoes and keeps smiling while he does it. But hey, a bit of rain (okay, a lot of ‘monsoon’ rain and winds) didn’t stop the die-hards from showing up to sip mulled wine and nibble mince pies with us. Hats off to them—though they probably had to wring them out first.
The cancellation was a real blow, especially for the local businesses and charities who were counting on the event. It’s a bit like preparing everything for Christmas day, the decorations, the house, the presents, getting up at 6am to get that huge turkey cooked only to find it’s not happening this year! Still, we stiffen our upper lips, take it on the chin, and soldier on—British resilience, right? Or at least, that’s what I mutter to myself as I move a box of Christmas biscuits from one shelf to another.
Speaking of which, my week has mostly been a montage of me shuffling boxes around the shop like some kind of festive Tetris champion. Every time I think I’ve cleared enough space, another delivery arrives. The latest - it’s Christmas beers from Siren, Elusive, Bond, and Phantom - a line-up of superheroes but with better branding and way more hops. And trust me, these beers are so good they could make even Bert calm down a bit (though he’d spill them too).
But beer’s just the tip of the iceberg (or snowball, since it’s Christmas). We’ve got Festive Cheese, Chutneys, and Quince - which is the kind of thing that makes you feel fancy even when you’re eating it in your pyjamas sat on the floor. There are also Christmas Chocolates, Snacks, and enough stocking fillers to fill the Yeti’s socks (Big Foot- see what I did there?) .
If you can’t decide? No worries—just point at all the things you love, and we’ll turn them into a glorious hamper. Think of it as the “yes to everything” strategy. Cheese? Absolutely. Chocolates? Naturally. That random chutney you’re not sure of, but feel compelled to try? Why not? We’ll handle the wrapping while you bask in the glow of your excellent taste, and you'll be home in time to watch that re-run of Love Actually (because nothing screams Christmas like dancing in Downing Street!)
Oh, and we’re now on our 7-days-a-week opening schedule. So, pop down any day, including Sundays, and check out all our festive goodies. Just don’t ask me where anything is—I’ve moved the boxes so many times, I’ve completely lost track.
Have a great week!
Cheers!
