Helen and Simon Pattinson fell in love while working as lawyers. They left their jobs to travel around South America and Cupid’s arrow found its target a second time. On this occasion, it was chocolate that they fell head over heels for. While camping on a cocoa plantation and eating lots of delicious chocolate, inspiration struck to create their own small business. So, they returned home, taught themselves how to make chocolate and launched their first shop in Brighton in 2000. They named it ‘Montezuma’s’ after the Aztec emperor who served chocolate to Hernán Cortés and his band of Spanish colonisers in 1519. Helen and Simon’s vision was for Montezuma’s to become Britain’s greatest little chocolate company, and their innovative and responsible brand has done just that. The Aztec emperors were rumoured to bathe in chocolate, but when it tastes as good as these buttons, we’re going to stick to letting them melt slowly on our tongue…
